Reasonable 3 star. Closing down it seems.

Don't trust this hotel. I booked on Booking.com and they confirmed the reservation and then seven weeks later they unilaterally cancelled my reservation. Now there are no hotels in walking distance to the Old Course, so instead of staying three days in downtown after booking flights and huge payments for golf we will be taking an taxi into town. PLEASE don't do business with them or trust they will have a room for you.

This is my second time visiting St. Andrews, and I feel choosing this place was the right decision. The front desk staff, in particular, were very warm and friendly. Noticing that I had a lot of luggage, the female receptionist at the front desk kindly helped carry it upstairs and delivered it to my room door. She was very considerate. The room is spacious, well-equipped, and provided an excellent stay experience. Highly recommended!

We had such a wonderful experience at the ardgowan. We chose it just for it's location close to West sands, but we're blown away by the incredibly caring and friendly service, the beauty and comfort of the room, and the sensitivity to our family needs. Traveling with a toddler can be very hot or miss when it comes to accomodations and the staff at the ardgowan went above and beyond to welcome and accommodate our family needs. They upgraded our room, we're so kind to our child, and even offered us towels to take to the beach! Truly grateful for a special stay!

Front desk clerk couldn’t answer simple questions like where to park my car or even where my room was. Was told my room was on the 2nd floor but it was actually on the fifth floor and no lift. Tiny hole in the wall with no air con and a window that wouldn’t shut. Gave us a full size bed that was inadequate for two people and the pillows were not good. No water. No fridge. No outlets. Seagull nest right above the room has them all crowing all night. After a sleepless night, housekeeping starts at 8am in the room next door with radio blaring and loud voices. We checked out early and went the French hotel next door and had an amazing stay. When we checked out early, there was no inquiry as to the reason, no effort to improve our situation and no offer to refund us the $300 quid we paid for the unused night. I travel for a living and this is the worst place I have ever stayed.

Great location, around the corner from the 18th tee Old Course. Some rooms are smaller than others. Wifi is terrible, constantly crashing. I wasn't alone outside at 11 pm trying to get a signal so emails I "sent" hours earlier would leave my outbox.

AC did not work and washer dryer had problems. Everything else was fine

The service at the reception was nice and the room had a lovely view from the window. However, despite it being windy and cold outside, the room was uncomfortably warm and stuffy. The heater was off, but there was no way to fully open the window to let in fresh air. The lighting in the room was weak, with only one lamp, and the lamp above the bed didn't work. Additionally, the checkout time was very early, between 7-10 AM, and there was no option to pay for a later checkout. I chose this hotel for my vacation, hoping to get some much-needed rest after a 6-hour train journey from England. Unfortunately, the early checkout meant I couldn't get the sleep I needed and felt rushed out of the hotel.

Disappointed for the cost. Went mid-week and did not find it to be value for money in any sense. View from top floor was nice when the Haar wasn’t hanging around.

4 of us stayed for 2 nights from Friday 15th March 2024 for a golf weekend. Pleasant welcome from the reception and check-in handled well. Rooms are clean and pleasant enough, just a bit on the small side. The location of this hotel is great, you are on the doorstep to everything for St Andrews centre / golf courses. The one thing that really let down the stay was the Scottish Breakfast. The one rasher of bacon was dry, the potato scone like rubber, the beans "value" version, bread just not fresh, the single link sausage just lukewarm. This was the same for the 3 Scottish breakfasts ordered. I have stayed in the Ardgowan a number of times before and the breakfast was one of the things that was very good, but not this time. Maybe cutting back on the breakfast standard to save money!? Don't think I would go back.

Very cool Hotel in great location in town. Easy walk to beach, golf course, and downtown. Classic look in an older building.

Walking distance to everything. The room was spacious. Beds have a heavy comforter and could have used a lighter one in the room. Service was excellent as we had to leave prior to breakfast and they accommodated us. Beds were ok. Shower was ok. Service was great!!

Warning.... As it tells you on their website this hotel isn't accessible for unfit, disabled or elderly as it has no lift. We enjoyed our stay, the bed was comfy and the room was very clean. The staff very friendly and helpful. We were disappointed in the breakfast, especially myself with the eggs Benedict (boiled eggs not poached) and was just very basic. Suppose value for money I would say wasn't great considering what we paid for one night stay. But comfy bed and friendly staff made the stay fine for us.

Stopped for a couple of nights for a golf trip - perfect location to access the Auld course and the town pubs etc - only marked down due to lack of lift to upper floors and requirement to book a time for breakfast Recommended

If I could give it more stars for location, I would. Perfect stay for playing golf in the area. The restaurant downstairs was really nice with excellent breakfast and pints in the afternoon. Very attentive bartenders!

The Ardgowan is an amazing boutique hotel less than 2 blocks from the Old Course. The location is amazing as it is a short walk to the Old Course, New Course and Jubilee and an equally short walk to the main restaurant and shops area of St. Andrews. The staff was amazing and super friendly. The included breakfast was amazing and either ala cart or buffet. This is a traditional bed and breakfast style hotel where the rooms are relatively small but if you are visiting St. Andrews to play golf like us you will spend very little time in your room so no reason to pay a huge premium for a larger room. We will be going back next year and will stay at the Ardgowan again. It's a gem of a place.

I was part of the 2023 St. Andrews Experience from The Golf Advisory Council. We enjoyed six wonderful nights at the Ardgowan Hotel. The hotel is in an amazing location next to golfing, shopping, restaurants and more. The breakfast each morning is delicious, and the staff in the hotel goes above and beyond to help. The housekeeping does a great job refreshing the room each day!

My company, The Golf Advisory Council, gives away a trip to St. Andrews each year. This is my second time staying at the Ardgowan Hotel. The staff is extremely helpful and nice. Every morning I get a complimentary breakfast at the restaurant. The staff at the restaurant is attentive and is on top of everything. Throughout St. Andrews, there are not many hotels that have a better location. Just a few doors down is the legendary Dunvegan Bar. Across the street from the Dunvegan is the best golf shop in town, Auchterlonies. And just down the street is tee box #1 and the 18th green of The Old Course. I will not go to St. Andrews without the Ardgowan Hotel being my first choice.
